1925-Consolidation (posted July 1, 2024)

In 1919, three schools, Reed's Lake or Burgess, Knob Creek and the first Academy School, consolidated to form the second Academy School; Volo School consolidated with Sparks in 1915 and this school was called Sparks; Wilson Valley School consolidated with Little River in 1910 and this school was named Little River. Then the three schools of Academy, Sparks, and Little River consolidated in 1925 and the new high school was named "Academy Consolidated." Each of these three consolidated schools kept the school building in the home district, and the elementary grades, one through eight, continued to be taught in the separate districts. A new high school was built and later on, Heidenheimer voted to join Academy and the southeast portion of the Taylor's Valley School District was annexed to Academy. The Academy Consolidated High School was the first rural high school to teach vocational agriculture and home economics; one of the first rural high schools to serve hot meals in a lunchroom, the first rural high school to use buses to transport children to school, and one of several rural high schools to stress both literary and athletic participation in the interscholastic league.
